Fat Eighth
An 9×22-inch cut of fabric, half of a fat quarter.
A fat eighth is half a fat quarter — a piece approximately 9×22 inches. Like the fat quarter, it provides a more usable shape than a standard straight eighth (4.5×44 inches). Fat eighths are popular when you want variety from many fabrics but don't need as much of each one. Many quilters buy fat eighth bundles of coordinated fabric lines to audition color combinations before committing to a larger purchase. They're ideal for small blocks and scrappy projects.
