Copyright and Takedowns
Last updated: October 17, 2026
The short version
Quilters share a lot here: blocks they sewed, quilts they finished, designs they drew. Pattern designers earn their living from their work, so we only want members sharing what they made or have permission to share. If you see your work posted here without your say-so, tell us and we'll take it down quickly. If your post was taken down by mistake, you can tell us that too, and we'll put it back.
If someone posted your work
Send a written notice to our copyright agent (contact details below). Members can also use Report on the page and choose “Copyright violation”; we follow up by email for anything the report leaves out. For us to act, the notice needs:
- Your name, mailing address, phone number and email.
- What work was copied: the pattern, photo or design, with a link to it if it's online.
- Where it is on NiftyFifty: the link to each page, so we can find it.
- A statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't allowed by you, your agent, or the law.
- A statement that the information in your notice is accurate, and, under penalty of perjury, that you own the work or are allowed to act for the owner.
- Your physical or electronic signature (typing your full name works).
When a notice is complete, we take the post down promptly, keep a record, and tell the member who posted it. Please be sure before you send one: someone who knowingly makes a false claim can be held responsible for the harm it causes.
If your post was taken down
Taking a post down doesn't delete it. It stays in your account where only you can see it. If you made it yourself, have the designer's permission, or believe it was removed by mistake, send our copyright agent a counter-notice with:
- Your name, mailing address and phone number.
- The link to the post that was taken down.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you believe in good faith it was removed by mistake or misidentification.
- A statement that you agree to the jurisdiction of the federal court for your address (or, outside the United States, any district where NiftyFifty may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who sent the notice.
- Your physical or electronic signature.
We send your counter-notice to the person who made the claim. If they don't tell us within 10 to 14 business days that they've filed a court case about it, we put your post back.
Members who post others' work again and again
Every takedown that stands counts against the account that posted it. An account with 3 in 12 months is closed. A post that comes back after a counter-notice doesn't count.
