Mystery Quilt

A quilt project where instructions are released in stages and participants don't see the finished design until the end.

A mystery quilt is designed so that participants receive instructions in stages — cutting lists, then block assembly, then layout — without knowing what the final quilt will look like until the last reveal. Often organized by quilt designers or guilds as a multi-week or multi-month event, mystery quilts are popular because they eliminate decision fatigue (you just follow instructions) and build suspense. Participants are often pleasantly surprised to see how their fabric choices translate into the designer's original vision.
