Black and White Quilting Fabric

As seasoning — a black-and-white check or stripe scattered through a quilt adds graphic energy and makes the colors around it look more deliberate. Many quilters keep a small stash of them for exactly this.

In modern quilting, yes — they read as texture rather than color, so they slot into nearly any palette. The bolder the print, the more it behaves like an accent instead, so scale matters.

Dark fabrics can show through adjacent whites in a finished quilt. Press seams toward the dark fabric where you can, and consider trimming dark seam allowances slightly narrower behind white pieces.
