Block Patterns

Irish Chain

A two-block pattern featuring a diagonal chain of squares across the quilt, available in single, double, and triple variations.

Irish Chain is a two-block alternating pattern where one block carries a diagonal chain of small squares and the alternate block provides open space for elaborate quilting. The Single Irish Chain uses a Nine Patch alternated with a plain square. The Double Irish Chain uses a 25-patch block alternated with a block of five squares in a plus sign. The Triple Irish Chain continues the sequence with more chains. Irish Chain quilts are endlessly versatile and are one of the most popular patterns in American quilt history.
