Courthouse Steps
A Log Cabin variation where logs are added to opposite sides rather than rotating around the center.
Courthouse Steps is a variation of the Log Cabin block. Instead of adding logs in a rotating sequence around the center, logs are added to opposite sides — first top and bottom, then left and right — creating a symmetric block that looks the same from all sides. The center is often a contrasting rectangle rather than a square. When the logs alternate light and dark by opposing pairs rather than by half-block, the resulting pattern looks like steps ascending a staircase. Courthouse Steps sets beautifully in either a grid or on-point arrangement.
