Free Foundation Paper Piecing Alphabet

A free foundation paper piecing alphabet: block letters and numbers drawn in 3D, with a lit top, a front face and a shaded side, so a name looks carved out of blocks. Letters in a set are drafted at the same height, so they line up when you spell a word, and each one opens in NiftyFifty's free FPP tool to recolor, resize and print.

Questions

How many free patterns are in this collection?

37 right now, from 15 to 40 pieces each. 11 of them are beginner-friendly. All are free to recolor and print, with no sign-up.

Which block here is easiest?

The gentlest are 3D Letter T (15 pieces in 3 sections), 3D Number 7 (16 pieces in 4 sections) and 3D Letter Y (21 pieces in 4 sections). Fewer sections means fewer joins to line up.

Can I spell a name with these letters?

Yes. Each letter sews as its own block, and letters in a set are drafted at the same height, so you set them side by side to spell names, initials, dates or a word for a wall hanging.

Can I change the colors of a letter?

Yes. Open the letter in the free FPP tool, click a piece, then a fabric. Change every letter to match your quilt before you print.

Can I download these patterns as a PDF?

Yes. Each pattern opens in NiftyFifty's free FPP tool, which prints the foundations or downloads a PDF with a 1-inch test square, an assembly map, the sewing order and every foundation at exact size with 1/4-inch seam allowance.
