Free 3D and Optical Illusion FPP Patterns
Free 3D foundation paper piecing patterns, where each face of an object is a light, medium or dark fabric, as if lit from one direction. The three values do the work, so the blocks look solid from across a room.

Questions
How many free patterns are in this collection?
8 right now, from 12 to 80 pieces each. 3 of them are beginner-friendly. All are free to recolor and print, with no sign-up.
Which block here is easiest?
The gentlest are Impossible Triangle (12 pieces in 3 sections), Tumbling Cubes (22 pieces in 4 sections) and Christmas Gift Box (23 pieces in 6 sections). Fewer sections means fewer joins to line up.
How do 3D quilt blocks work?
Each face of an object gets one value: light on top, medium on one side, dark on the other, as if lit from one direction. Keep those three clearly different and the eye reads the block as solid.
Can I download these patterns as a PDF?
Yes. Each pattern opens in NiftyFifty's free FPP tool, which prints the foundations or downloads a PDF with a 1-inch test square, an assembly map, the sewing order and every foundation at exact size with 1/4-inch seam allowance.
