The Cherokee Rose was adopted by Georgia in 1916 as its official state flower. The flowers are white roses with a yellow center. They grow on an evergreen climbing shurb which is a native plant of China. It has been known as the "Trail of Tears" to represent the stolen gold of the Cherokee people. The center yellow of the rose represents the gold surrounded by the white petals to represent the tears of the Cherokee people.
