About this swap
Red, white, and blue blocks honored first responders, victims, and the resilience of the American spirit. We were all shock on that fateful day. Quilters come together in a time of need. I got involved in the 911 Memorial Quilt Project when Amy Sue Leasure the organizer needed help in distributing the 20,000 quilt blocks that arrived in Arizona from around the world. I offered to sort and distribute these blocks around the country to get the quilts completed. Amy mailed a ton of extra large totes to my house. They were filled with these quilt squares from around the world. I sorted them and sent them off in packages to quilters who volunteered to get them completed. Our participants for the Nifty Fifty 9/11 swap had to design their quilt block in memory of 9/11 and write a heartfelt message on 6 inch signature blocks to go along with their designed quilt block.
