Sashing
Strips of fabric sewn between quilt blocks to separate and frame them.
Sashing consists of strips of fabric — usually a solid or low-volume print — that are sewn between individual quilt blocks. Sashing visually separates blocks, makes individual designs stand out more clearly, and allows a quilt top to be assembled from fewer blocks while still reaching the desired finished size. Sashing strips can be plain or include cornerstones (small squares at the intersections). The width of sashing dramatically affects the overall look of the finished quilt.
