Quilting Cotton

A tightly woven, 100% cotton fabric specifically manufactured for quilting, typically 44–45 inches wide.

Quilting cotton is the workhorse fabric of most quilters. It is woven from combed or carded cotton in a plain weave at a higher thread count than garment fabric, producing a fabric that cuts cleanly, sews accurately, holds a crease when pressed, and washes without significant distortion. Standard quilting cotton is 44–45 inches wide. Premium quilting cotton (from makers like Kaufman Kona, Moda Bella Solids, and premium print lines) has a higher thread count and tighter weave for even better performance. Wide quilting cotton (108+ inches wide) is popular for quilt backings.
