Square sizes are reversed for the Eleanor Burns Flying Geese method: from cream/gold print cut 8 (7-1/2"-wide) strips into 36 (7-1/2") squares; from black/gold print cut 9 (9"-wide) strips into 36 (9") squares. (Standard cutting: 142 cream/gold 3-1/2" x 6-1/2" A rectangles; 284 black/gold 3-1/2" B squares.) The error was the magazine's, not designer Patti Carey's.
