Red embroidery on a white background — a tradition dating back to the late 1800s. This state-themed redwork block features iconic state symbols stitched in classic backstitch and stem stitch.

Materials

Muslin or white cotton, red embroidery floss (DMC 321), embroidery needle, hoop

Instructions

Transfer state symbol design to muslin. Use backstitch for outlines, stem stitch for curves, and French knots for details. Press face-down on a towel to preserve dimensional stitching.
