QAYG (Quilt As You Go)
A method of quilting each block individually before joining them, avoiding handling a large quilt sandwich.
Quilt As You Go (QAYG) is a construction method in which each block is quilted through all three layers — top, batting, and backing — before the blocks are assembled into a finished quilt. This avoids wrestling a large, heavy quilt sandwich through a home sewing machine. The quilted blocks are then joined using joining strips, sashing, or a back-to-back seaming method. QAYG is especially popular for machine quilters who want to manage bulk, for quilters without a longarm, and for block-swap participants who want to gift pre-quilted blocks.
